This model was created as a test for using wood hardener on Buckeye burl. Although the hardener increases the wood’s strength, Buckeye burl is originally a low-density wood, so I used stainless steel for the front housing to produce LOAK2-SS(CL) as an earphone with more bass response.
The wood hardener penetrates not only the surface but also the inside of the wood, though it does not fully permeate like stabilized wood. It increases the hardness and density, slightly enhancing the properties compared to its original softness.
The driver tuning is the same as LOAK2-TX01 and Ti(CL)01, but the stainless steel housing provides a firm and impactful low end.
Until now, I have avoided using burl woods among softer woods due to their unstable strength and large individual variation in hardness and density. However, by using wood hardener, while some of the natural characteristics are lost, it makes these woods usable in earphone production.
