TENORA with a Snakewood Backplate
This model uses Snakewood, known for its striking snake-like pattern and glossy finish. Among the woods handled by 634EARS, Snakewood is one of the hardest. It’s also very expensive, and pieces with particularly fine patterns are hard to obtain.
Compared to the previously introduced Honduran Rosewood, Itaya Maple, and Ezo cherry, the TENORA with Snakewood is the sharpest and most streamlined in sound. The bass is moderately tight, and the mid-to-high frequencies offer a clear soundstage. It also conveys a sense of speed and crispness, though the attack can be somewhat strong. I find that it provides a wider spatial feel than the other woods. On the 634EARS wood chart, Snakewood is a representative of the “hardness > density” type, known for its openness and bright tone.
Although the bass is slimmer than that of Rosewood—which may come down to personal preference—if you prioritize resolution, clarity, and a crisp character, this is the most highly recommended wood. It delivers a truly beautiful sound.
